What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a system of primary health care that includes acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, remedial massage (anmo tuina), exercise and breathing therapy (such as qigong), and diet and lifestyle advice.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has an uninterrupted history of development in China and other parts of East Asia dating back thousands of years. TCM takes a wholistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes and focuses as much on the prevention of illness as it does on the treatment.
What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?
Chinese herbal medicine is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
A qualified practitioner is able to prescribe a Chinese herbal formula that specifically matches and treats your individual health problem. As your condition changes and improves with treatment, the Chinese herbal treatment is also adjusted and modified until the desired health outcome is achieved.
Chinese herbal medicines are prescribed either singly or made into formulae which take into account the individual therapeutic action of each herb and well as the effects when combined together. A well constructed formula maximises the effectiveness for treating a particular condition, while counteracting and minimising the unwanted effects of an individual herb.
In addition to providing effective treatment for a wide range of health disorders, Chinese herbal medicine may also be used to assist with general health maintenance and disease prevention. By strengthening and enhancing normal body functions, the immune system is boosted and a general sense of well-being promoted.
What is Acupuncture?
 |
Acupuncture has been practised in China for about 3,500 years, The majority of the important acupuncture points are on 14 channels running over the body, each representing an internal organ. Qi, or vital energy, flowes through these channels. In disease the flow of qi is altered and the insertion of an acupuncture needle into an appropriate point helps to correct the flow of vital energy, thereby restoring the body to health.
When performed by a properly trained and licensed practitioner, acupuncture is safe and effective, free from adverse or addictive side effects. Quite often, a sense of relaxation and well-being occurs during and after treatments. |
What is Moxibustion?
 |
This is part of Acupuncture treatment. The herb "Moxa" is burnt over certain points to heat them and stimulate the "Chi Energy" for healing. The skin is not blistered or touched by the burning moxa. It is a pleasant warming sensation often used in bronchial and fatigue syndromes.

What is Cupping?
 |
Cupping is a method of stimulating Acupuncture points by applying suction through a jar, in which a partial vacuum has been created. This technique produces blood congestion at the site, and therefore stimulates it. Cupping is used for low backache, sprains, soft tissue injuries, and helping relieve fluid from the lungs in chronic bronchitis. |
